Secondly, you are dealing with a case that has
phenomenally broad First Amendment implications as far as
the substantive matters that are to come before the Court.
This is obviously a matter of substantial public interest
and of substantial public significance.

THE COURT: I recognize that. I don’t have a
problem with that. What I’m trying to prevent, Counsel, is
picking the chicken right here in my courtroom. That’s
what was going on. I personally observed one member of
Scientology and one member of the other side standing
eyeball to eyeball with their cameras at the last hearing.
Now, that’s ludicrous. Not in my courtroom. I will
guarantee you that.

Now, I’m saying no. There was no prior request
today. And, two, I’m ordering you and Mr. Pope to sit down
and come up with some ground rules for me and work out your
procedure as to how each of you are going to -- and,
Mr. Howie, that includes you
-- designate the
representative from your party’s position that will be your
press agent, and that’s the way we’ll work it.

Now, let’s move onto the next point. Are there
any other points?

MR. MERRETT: Just those two.

MR. POPE: Are we getting into the merits now,
Your Honor?
