United States Supreme Court had just issued a ruling in the
case of Hill v. Colorado . And I have copies of this
opinion that I will give Counsel, and here is one for the
Court, if I may.
 
THE COURT:
You may, please.
MR. POPE:
It’s dated today, and the essence of
this opinion, Your Honor, is that the State of Colorado,
because Colorado legislature passed a so-called bubble
statute with respect to protests and abortion clinics in
the State of Colorado.
 
And in essence, what it says is that if a
protester is within a hundred feet of an abortion clinic,
then it is a criminal offense to get closer than eight feet
to somebody who is seeking the services.
 
So it is a sort of a little wall of sanctity
around this person so they can’t be physically intimidated.
Now, eight feet is pretty close, really. You’ve got a
ten-feet-from-the-property-line rule here, and you’ve got a
safety zone that deals with ingress and egress from the
dining facility, but those are not major restrictions on
free speech and the right to protest and assemble.
 
In fact, if you look at the police reports and
the internet postings, you will see that they are freely
exercising their right to protest and picket, which they
have an absolute constitutional right to do. They just
